Brattåsskolan, Sweden
Brattåsskolan is situated near the beautiful Brattåshill in Mölndal near Gothenburg in Sweden. The hill and the forest is a part of our schoolyard.
We have about 280 students between 6 and 12 years old. The youngest children 6 and 7 years old are together in the classes. We have also Montessori classes, this year there are about 75 children participating in the Montessori classes.
About a third of the students come from another countries, we have about 14 different languages in Brattåsskolan.
Our goal is to make a safe, innovative place for the students to grow and learn. This school year 2010-2011 we started to work with entrepreneurship as a part of the education for the children preparing them for the life as an flexible, responsible adult people.
Keski-Espoon koulu is a comprehensive school in Espoo next to Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
Our pupils are from 6 to 16 years old and they can go to school from preschool to the 9th grade in the same building. At the moment (in 2009-2010) there are 402 pupils in our school.
Our school is very multicultural wtih 26 different native languages. We emphasize good basic education, solidarity and co-operation. Furthermore, we have also emphasized teaching in art and sports.
In grades 7-9 our school work is organized as courses studied in four equally long periods during the academic year.
Uhtna school, Estonia
Uhtna is a village in Northern-Estonia, about a hundred kilometres from the capital Tallinn to east. There are 300 people in the village. Uhtna belongs into Sõmeru municipality.
Sõmeru municipality is in the north east of Estonia, its territory is 167,2 km2 and population is 3800 people. There are 32 villages in the municipality. Its landscape is mainly flat, covered with forests and large fields. In Sõmeru there are a lot of enterprises : a cement plant, timber factories and others.
86 students study at our school. Uhtna school is a basic school with 9 classes. Younger ones have 4-5 lessons a day, older ones 6-8 lessons. Our lessons start at 8 a.m., and finish at 3 p.m Teachers leave at about 4. A teacher usually gives 5-6 lessons a day.
We have got a computer class with 18 computers. Students have free admission to the computers. All the computers are connected to the Internet.
There is a big hall for sports and bigger events, fitness hall, a school museum, a skiing-centre, a beautiful school garden and park, a big running track in our school.
Our students are interested in dancing, we have a folk-dance and a ball dance group.
Our students can learn to play the piano and flute.
Our school is very good at sports, especially at skiing. Children have won several prizes in Estonia. Most of children learn to play chess and table tennis.
Our students usually take part in Estonian national song and dance festivals.
Zakumuiza Elementary school, Latvia
The school was founded in year 1986. There are 126 students and 20 teachers in Zakumuiza Elementary school this school year. Students are 7-16 years old. Our school provides general elementary education programme.
Today school offers also variety of after school activities. Students can take part in sport clubs, art lessons, folklore ensemble, choir, folk dances, language club, computer design lessons, drama lessons and many more.
Main ceremonies of our school are: celebration of Latvian state holidays (Lāčplēsis day, anniversary of Latvia State Proclamation date), Teachers’ day, Christmas concert for parents and grandparents, celebration of Mother’s day, St. Valentines day and other.
Our school is open to new ideas and approaches, many teachers and students are involved in different projects- national and international.
